Questions And Answers About Neighborhoods Day

WHAT IS NEIGHBORHOODS DAY?
Neighboods Day celebrates all the great work block clubs, churches, schools community groups and local businesses do throughout the year in the effort to create a better Detroit. Neighborhoods Day events are held all over the city on the same day, from midtown to downtown, from the west side to the east side.

WHAT TYPE OF EVENT SHOULD I HAVE?
Whatever shows off the work and serves the needs of your neighborhood or organization - such as community cleanups, parades, work shops on various issues, youth events and concerts, volunteer signups for community programs, health fairs, garage sales, picnics, etc.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A LARGE EVENT?
No. Do whatever works best for your situation. Some events have had several hundred people of (not or) over 1,000, some 20 to 50. The size of the event is not as important as demonstrating your desire to be connected to other Detroiters who share a common spirit for a better community.

 HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is a $50 registration fee. You will receive a Neighborhoods Day banner, T-Shirts and a "community tool kit," of neighborhood services and resources. ARISE Detroit! also will assist in identifying potential vendors for your event if you wish.

HOW WILL I RAISE MONEY TO HOST MY EVENT?
ARISE Detroit! does not make grants, but many groups obtain funding from their community businesses and organizations that are eager to support groups that support them throughout the year.

WILL MY EVENT RECEIVE MEDIA COVERAGE?
Some events will receive media coverage, but we connet guarantee it for all events. However, ARISE Detroit! promotes all the events to the local media and all events will be posted on our website map.

ARISE Detroit! is a coalition of more than 400 community groups, churches, block clubs and media outlets promoting volunteerism, community activism and positive media images to create a better Detroit.

“A Day of Celebration, Conversation and Commitment”

ARISE Detroit!, a community wide call-to-action and volunteer initiative, invites you to to register your organization the 3rd Annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day on Aug. 1, 2009, – a day focused on reconnecting families, people and neighborhoods.

ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day is a combination citywide block party, family reunion and networking affair. It showcases the best of the spirit of Detroiters.

Participating neighborhood organizations, block clubs and churches will hold games for children, neighborhood parades, health screenings, vendor fairs, and offer vendor booths so people can sign up as volunteers or learn about the many organizations working to help children and families and neighborhoods.

The purpose is to stimulate pride, connect people together by harkening back to the days when everyone on the block looked out for each other and their children.

Last year, during the second observance of Neighborhoods Day, 110 events were held from the Riverfront to Eight Mile, from Midtown to downtown.

Since launching in June of 2006, ARISE Detroit has grown from 22 founding partners to more than 400 non-profits, churches, business and media outlets collaborating to improve the quality of life in Detroit through volunteerism and community activism.

The organization recruits volunteers and markets events and organizations that work to improve the quality of life for children and families.
